The beautiful black and white photograph 'A city of wine glasses' by Renee Gross-Zylbersztajn of Josie our life-class model, won the `My Brother Jack` The Local Framing Studio Open Photographic Award issued by Glen Eira Council in late June this year.
This image is a screenshot taken from our collective Whatsapp group. This digital platform was set up by Renee, our Facilitator, to encourage an open dialogue between all the artists of the group whether we met in person or not. Since Renee has been on Maternity leave, our group followed Renee from Gasworks Arts Park to her living room to continue our life class.
The image above captures both Renee's photograph and the photograph I quickly snapped as a reference pic of Josie so I could finish the sculpture you can see in the background.
The synchronicity of our images just goes to show that two almost identical photographs are captured for different reasons. One a utilitarian reference of the model in her pose (and my sculpture), where life copies art copies life in a cycle, in order to complete a sculpture. The other a sensitive, nuanced expression of the connection Renee felt to the model in her personal space.
It just goes to show that there is acknowledged artistic intelligence going on in our little collective... well done Renee!!
